Voices of our Elders

The Tribal Council sponsored the video recording of 40 of our elders.  The Library/Museum will be honoring a different elder each week.  We would like to thank the elders for such a great gift not only to their community and to their families but to future generations.

Great News!  We have been awarded three grants.

The 2009 Basic Library Services Grant in the Native American Library Services Program provided through ILMS. This grant is making it possible to contract a Data Entry person. Who will scan rare books, historical archives, manuscripts, the photo collection and journals into the Past Perfect software/server. This will make this information more accessible to the public. This is our third award of $5000.00 to help with this project we have been working mainly on photos.  We welcome you to stop by and look at the pictures we have ready for your viewing.  As we processed them they were also put into Mylar sleeves and archival folders for protection.

As part of this grant we also received and additional $1000.00 for Education/Assessment Option.
This will be used to contract the services of a professional Archivist to conduct onsite visit to train staff in organizing, documenting and preserving our archives.  He/She will also assist on Policy Development for the library

Native American/Native Hawaiian Museum Services Grant FY2009

We proposed to develop two new exhibits to help fulfill the mission of the Library/Museum: an interactive map documenting the many removals of the tribe.  This will be told by the youth of the community.  The other will be a wigwam exhibit with a story teller inside why will tell stories of traditional Mohican life.  This grant is for $49,900.

Congressionally Directed Grant ($143,000) two year grant

For this grant I used the Strategic Plan as a guide to determine what was important to the S/M Community for the Library/Museum.

“Preserving Our History.”

The grant was broken up into three sections.
