David Charles Lewis was born  and raised in Chicago, Illinois His parents are Earl Jasper Lewis and Myrtle Dorothy Lewis. David has three brothers, Gerald Earl, Leonard Everett, and Henry Thomas. He has one sister Roslyn Joyce Stark. Growing up David attended Nixon Elementary School, Kelvyn Park High School, and LA Community College. As a child he enjoyed playing baseball and meeting new people.

David has had many jobs in his lifetime. These include Rotransco Trucking, RHI Consulting, and Mediaone Cable. Most notable would be his time served in the U.S. Army. He is a retired veteran that served the U.S. for 20 years! While in the army he spent 15 years in Korea, one year in Vietnam, and four years on other assignments.

While serving in Korea David met his wife Chong Sun.  They have been married for 25 years. They have two daughters; Michelle and Cassandra. David is also the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren; Lindina, Tinaya, Anton, Faith, Keaton, Kim, Justin, Prince, Debbie, and Isabella.

David has traveled all over the United States while in the military, as well as Asia and Europe. He is very proud of his 20 years of active duty in the United States Army. During the Vietnam War and while serving in Korea David was awarded several times for his services. He has a number of awards that include: Air medal with V-device for heroism, joint service commendation medal with star, army commendation medal with oak leaf clusters, army achievement medal with four oak leaf clusters, Good conduct medal with five awards rope, armed forces expeditionary medal, Korea defense service medal, National defense service medal, Vietnam service medal with two campaign stars, NCO professional development ribbon, army service ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal with "60 Device", Army Presidential Unit Citation, and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Unit Citation with Palm.
