"Mankind has for years tried to "tame the
wilderness" when in fact they should have been trying to tame their own
restlessness. As the wilderness is taken from the land, man’s restlessness will
increase. When the wilderness is gone, we will find that we still have the
restlessness, and that restlessness will turn us upon each other. It is then we
will find that we have destroyed what gave us meaning and what could have cured
our restlessness. It is then that we will find that we should have respected the
wilderness." (Anonymous)

Adult Bald eagles, such as this one, are a common scene on the reservation.
A young whitetail deer looking back at the photographer.
I believe this is a young Golden Eagle which has been seen around the reservation in the winter of 2003.
This root stump found in the duck pond off National Guard Road, had this next of Common Grackles awaiting for the return of their mother, pictured in the following photo.
The mother Grackle waits for us and our canoe to leave her offspring.
A Varied Thrush, related to the robin, but usually found in California and a few other western states, was feeding on the reservation for a few weeks in early 2003.
A porcupine high in a tree is not an uncommon sight on the reservation.
