ELDERLY SERVICES

The Elderly Center is located in the Housing Division at N8651 Maplewood St.

Our building is tan with blue double doors. The meal site can safely seat sixty-five participants. An elder is defined as those who are 55 years and older, services are also offered to only those disabled persons who reside in housing designated for the elderly (per grant requirement). We are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Friday Breakfast at 8 a.m.

Elders donation of $1.00 is welcomed

Charge $3.00 for those under 55 years old

PLEASE CALL AHEAD (AT LEAST 24 HRS.) TO SIGN UP FOR MEALS, THIS HELPS THE COOKS IN PREPARING ENOUGH FOOD, THANK YOU!

  • Chore Services – snow removal, lawn mowing, rake leaves, window washing and Odd jobs that elders may find they can no longer do. Please contact The Elderly Center for more details.

Elderly Services Manager, Kristy Malone

The manager is responsible for the overall operation of the Stockbridge-Munsee Elderly Services program. The program provides support and assistance to the elderly. The program is under the direction of the Economic Support Division. The program employees are Manager, Head Cook, Assistant Cook, Busdriver/Outreach, Activity Coordinator, Elder Visitor, Elderly Benefit Specialist and two Chore Workers.

Head Cook, Randy Malone and Assistant Cook, Rod Pecore’s duties include planning, purchase, storage, preparation and serving of meals to the elderly.

Bus driver/Outreach, Roger Malone, transports elders to and from the congregate meal site, delivers meals to the homebound, scheduled shopping trips and other planned activities and/or events. Duties also include relaying information on the needs and interests of the elderly to the program manager and makes home visits to elders residing in the service area as needed.

Activity Coordinator, Ellen Moore, works in conjunction with the SM Elderly Steering Committee to plan, coordinate and carry out recreational and educational activities for the elders. Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the SM Program Elderly Manager.

Elder Visitor, Jermain Davids, is to visit each and every tribal elder at least one time during a calendar year. The Visitor will assess family needs and make appropriate referrals and follow-up. The Visitor may visit to alleviate loneliness and/or assist an elder with a light chore or housekeeping.

Elderly Benefit Specialist, DeAnna DeNasha, will assist elderly clients with the application process for benefits in areas of health care, Medicare, SSI, Social Security and Medicaid. She will provided information for other elderly services, explain benefits and make referrals to local, state, federal and tribal agencies as needed and follow up to ensure clients are receiving benefits they are entitled to..

Chore Workers, Brandy Moede and Larry Moede, Sr. will perform chores for elders who can no longer perform such work and are responsible to report conditions which may be hazardous for elders.
