Head Start is a Federal program for preschool children. It is a comprehensive and innovative child development program and family development program. Head Start is an anti-poverty program as well as a child-advocacy and a Jobs program to help both the child and family. Head Start is starting a Parent-Mentor training program that is aimed at increasing the ability of parents to enhance their children's language and literacy skills as well as learning how to mentor other parents to do the same with their children.

The effort of Head Start supports the President's Good Start, Grow Smart Early Childhood Initiative that stresses the importance of supporting parents and families in rearing their children. Head Start helps all children succeed. Services are offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. Children in Head Start are between the ages of three and five years old. Head Start is a health and nutrition program that provides activities that help children grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically.

The Head Start staff recognizes that parents are the first and most important teachers of their children. Staff welcome's parent involvement in Head Start activities and work with you as partners to help children progress.

Skilled professionals for health problems screen Head Start children. Professionals will arrange vision and hearing tests and needed immunizations. Head Start offers a nutrition assessment and dental exams as well Children with health needs receive follow-up care. Mental health and other services are available for children and families with special needs. The Head Start teaching staff received their AA degree to meet the new education requirements in Early Childhood to provide a better learning environment for the children.

The Director/Coordinate/Disability Manger of the Head Start has the primarily responsibility for the development and implementation of all education, curriculum program, planning, staff development and training of the Head Start staff, and obverse’s the day to day operations. Ensures that the Head Start is in full compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards in its operations under the grantees agreement with the U.S. Department of Health & Human Service and the Head Start program how the programs are set-up.

The Lead Teacher/Family Services Manger for the Head Start is responsible for classroom lesson plans; supervision of students, teacher aids and all classroom volunteers provides a balance daily classroom of child-initiated and adult directed activities that are age appropriate. As Parent Manger she is responsible for the development of Family Partnership Agreements that can help the family meet their needs. Assists in the transition assessment by helping families in the completion of kindergarten enrollment packets and help schedule training activities for families of children entering the school districts to director them in the appropriate classroom.

The Assistant Teacher/Literacy Specialist is responsible for classroom set-up, supervision of teachers, teacher aide and volunteers. Works with Director on daily bases on the schedule and activities for the Head Start center that is appropriate for this age level, which is in compliance with the Head Start performance standards. She coordinates the Literacy program, which is a family reading program. The Reading is Fundamental program (RIF) focuses on "Family of Reading" that encourages parents and families to take an increasing role in the operation of the program. She set-ups the book distribution with the participation of the parents, which is the ownership of the books for the children to start a library at home to increase their reading skills that is one of required of the performance standards of the Head Start program. She also set-up a lending library for the children and families to take books home weekly to read together that encourages time together.

The Teacher Aide/Bus Driver/Parent Involvement position assists in the classroom under the supervision of the classroom lead teacher. Assist in the implementation of lesson plans, activities and daily preparations. She also is our number two-bus driver who is responsible for the transportation of Head Start children.

The Cook/Nutrition Manager is responsible in the preparation of the Head Start meals for the USDA Food program and menus follow the Head Start performance standards. Set-ups the kitchen and maintains the nutrition files for the USDA program. She also fills in as a teacher aide in the classroom when needed.

The Bus Driver Manager/Building Maintenance is responsible for the care of both Head Start buses and the supervision of the bus routes. He drives bus number one and is responsible for the transportation of enroll Head Start children from home to school and school to home under the Head Start performance standards. Set-up all the vehicle maintenance and repair for the Head Start building and grounds.

The Experience Worker/Senior Worker/Housekeeper is responsible for working at the Head Start program; she does the cleaning of the classrooms. Helps in the classrooms reads to the children and works at the tables the children at art work, games, puzzles, and eats with the children when needed. She does the ordering list of cleaning supplies for the center.

Our Head Start Program is a center-based program and it offers bus service to the children to and from home. Head Start offers a service of belonging to all family members. The Head Start Family Service manager refer families needing help to medical, social welfare, or employment specialists in the community, and will follow-up to be sure you receive assistance. Head Start helps to remove racial, cultural, and ethnic barriers and offers assistance to parents, family, community interested in obtaining a high school General Equivalence Diploma (GED) or other adult education opportunities.

You can become a Head Start volunteer and learn more about child development and this experience may later qualify you for training which can help find employment in the child care field. You can also have a voice in the Head Start program by serving on various committees. Parent's experiences in Head Start have raised their own self-confidence and improved their ability to make decisions about their Childs Education. Head Start continues to grow and serve the community and families it gives families hope and helps families succeed. Head Start is a very successful Program.
